Mr. Brainwash, the pseudonymous identity of Thierry Guetta, a filmmaker and street pop artist based in Los Angeles since the mid-1980s, is a prominent figure in contemporary art. In 2006 Mr. Brainwash set aside his video camera and quickly became renowned in the burgeoning street art scene alongside Banksy, Shepard Fairey, and Invader. Brought to wider attention by Banksy’s 2010 documentary film Exit Through the Gift Shop, Mr. Brainwash’s massive solo art shows have attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors globally and his works have become desirable collector’s items.
His diverse works span music, art, film, sports, politics, history, and science, often featuring iconic figures ranging from The Beatles and Elvis Presley to Barack Obama and Jackson Pollock, among numerous others. Mr. Brainwash has been engaged in a multitude of creative endeavors, including the production of cover artwork, album campaigns, music videos, and installations for influential personalities and brands such as Madonna, Michael Jackson, Coca-Cola, and Levi’s. A significant milestone in Mr. Brainwash’s career is establishing the Mr. Brainwash Art Museum in Beverly Hills, CA. He simultaneously created monumental car sculptures for the Petersen Automotive Museum and produced two public art installations on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, called Imagiro, an origami-inspired sculpture project, and the Follow Your Heart installation.
